Susanne Zapf brings new music to life
On Wednesday, November 18, 2026, the Museum im Deutschhof in Heilbronn transforms into a concentrated sound space: At the Perspective Concert, the Berlin violinist Susanne Zapf performs Walter Zimmermann's work Concerns Go Across the River for solo violin. Admission is free, starting at 7:30 PM.
A violin as a complete sound cosmos
Walter Zimmermann composed Concerns Go Across the River in 1989 and revised the work in 2001. In this solo presentation, the entire focus is on the sound possibilities of the violin: on the finest tonal nuances, tension-filled lines, resonances, and the transition between fragile intimacy and expressive stage presence.
Susanne Zapf: experienced in contemporary music
Susanne Zapf was born in 1979 in Ebersdorf, Thuringia, and studied under Koji Toyoda, Ilan Gronich, Grigory Zhislin, and Keiko Wataya. Masterclasses with Christian Tetzlaff, Igor Ozim, Antje Weithaas, and Philippe Graffin shaped her artistic education. Since 2006, she has been a member of the Sonar String Quartet Berlin. Additionally, she regularly appears with the Ensemble Mosaik, Ensemble Oriol, Holland Symfonia Orchestra, and Musikfabrik NRW. Since 2021, she has been teaching at the University of the Arts Berlin.
Perspectives on music of the 20th and 21st centuries
The concert series Perspectives Heilbronn is dedicated to music from the 20th and 21st centuries, bringing its performers particularly close to the audience in the municipal museums. The acoustics of the museum space create an immediate live atmosphere, where every articulation, every bow movement, and every sound synchronization between body, instrument, and space becomes perceivable.
An evening for curious ears
The Perspective Concert is aimed at all who wish to not only hear contemporary music but experience it attentively. Between musical precision, focused conducting of one's own gestures, and intense stage performance, a concert experience emerges that opens familiar listening habits and creates new perspectives on the violin.
Conclusion: Experience new music up close
Anyone who wants to experience the immediate sound of a single violin, the tension of modern composition, and the audience atmosphere of a special museum evening will find an extraordinary access to contemporary music at the Perspective Concert with Susanne Zapf. Admission is free – a strong reason to experience this evening live at the Museum im Deutschhof.
